What We Collect, and What We Don’t

The short version: this site runs without you signing up for anything.

We do not offer user accounts, log-ins, comments, reader-submitted reviews or a contact form. We do not take payments on the site, and we do not set our own cookies for tracking or advertising.

What we do process:

• Standard request data. The site is delivered and protected by Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare processes standard technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, to serve the page and protect the site from attacks and abuse. We rely on our legitimate interest in site security for that processing.
• Aggregate analytics counts. Plausible Analytics records aggregate, cookieless counts of activity, such as pages viewed, referring websites, country, device type and clicks on booking links. These counts do not identify you.
• Emails you send us. If you write to info@spahotelfinder.com or james@spahotelfinder.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
• Newsletter address. If you sign up for our newsletter, MailerLite holds the email address you give.

That is the full list. We do not have the data to build a profile of you, and we do not try to.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, and nothing else. There is no Google Analytics on this site.

Plausible is cookieless: it does not set cookies, it does not store an identifier on your device, and it does not collect personal data. It gives us aggregate counts of pages viewed, referring sites, countries, device types and clicks on booking links. Plausible stores its data in the European Union.

We use these counts under our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, so we can see what readers find useful and what they do not. Because the counts are aggregate and contain no personal data, there is nothing in them to link back to you.

Booking Links and Affiliate Partners

Hotel pages include booking links to Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Kayak and Agoda, routed through Stay22, an affiliate network.

When you click a booking link, you leave our site. Stay22 and the booking site you land on may then set their own cookies on their own domains to record that you arrived from us, so the booking can be attributed. Those cookies and that processing are governed by Stay22’s privacy policy and the booking site’s privacy policy, not by this one. We recommend reading them before you book.

If you book, the booking site may pay us a commission; not every link or hotel is commissionable. You pay the same price as you would otherwise. We receive commission reports showing that a booking was made; we do not receive your name or your booking details. Commission never affects a SpaRator score, a ranking or what an analysis says. Live Rates and Maps

Live rates. Hotel pages show a live rates panel. When you pick dates, your browser sends the hotel and the dates to our own rates service, which runs on Cloudflare and fetches current prices from a hotel-price data provider. No personal data is sent in that request.

Maps. Hotel pages show a map image served by Google Maps. Google receives your IP address when the map image or the interactive map loads, under Google’s privacy policy; the interactive map loads only if you press “Load map”.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own for tracking or advertising, and we run no advertising cookies on this site.

The only cookie we may set is a strictly necessary security cookie placed by Cloudflare when it screens traffic to protect the site. That cookie exists to keep the site working and secure, not to track you.

Any other cookies you meet come from third parties after you leave us:

• Booking partners. Stay22 and the booking sites may set cookies on their own domains when you click through to them.
• Google Maps. Loading the interactive map may cause Google to set cookies under Google’s privacy policy.

Because we do not set tracking or advertising cookies, the site does not show a cookie consent banner.

Email and Newsletter

Email to info@spahotelfinder.com and james@spahotelfinder.com runs on Google Workspace. We keep messages as long as we need to answer them and for our records. We handle your email because you wrote to us: using your address to reply is the point of receiving it.

The newsletter, if you choose to sign up, runs on MailerLite with double opt-in. We send marketing email only with your consent, and that consent is the legal basis for sending to you. Every newsletter email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

How Long We Keep Data

• Emails: as long as needed to answer your message and keep proper records.
• Newsletter address: until you unsubscribe.
• Analytics: the aggregate counts are not personal data, so there is nothing to identify or delete.
• Cloudflare request data: processed to deliver and secure the site under Cloudflare’s own retention and privacy practices. We do not keep a separate copy.

We do not keep data longer than the uses above require.

Where Data Is Processed

The providers named in this policy are Cloudflare, Plausible Analytics, Stay22, Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Kayak, Agoda, Google (for Google Maps), Google Workspace and MailerLite.

Some of these providers may process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Union. Where they do, they rely on their own safeguards; their privacy policies describe what those are. When you click a booking link or load the interactive map, the relevant provider’s policy applies from that point on.

Your Rights

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you have rights over personal data that identifies you:

• Access: ask us what personal data we hold about you and get a copy.
• Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate data.
• Deletion: ask us to delete data in some cases.
• Restriction: ask us to limit how data is used in some cases.
• Portability: ask for data in a machine-readable form in some cases.
• Objection: object to processing based on our legitimate interests, under the rules that apply.
• Withdraw consent: withdraw newsletter consent at any time. This does not affect email sent before you withdrew it.

To use any of these, email info@spahotelfinder.com with “Privacy” in the subject, or write to the postal address above. We will respond without undue delay and within the deadlines set by law.

You can also complain to a supervisory authority. In the United Kingdom, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). In the European Union, it is your local data protection authority.

Because the site collects so little, most requests are simple: there is usually nothing to correct or export, and anything we do hold is an email conversation or a newsletter subscription.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, email info@spahotelfinder.com and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and mark the date of the change. If a change affects how we treat your data, we will state it plainly in the new version.
