SpaRatorHow SpaRator scores work

The most complete wellness stay in North America, and 2026 is its best year yet.
9.1 out of 10
0246810
Twenty-one treatment rooms serve 23 guests, and the 2026 review record is the strongest in the property's 25 years. What nothing else in Arizona has: a solstice-aligned crystal chamber, ceremonial work priced from $265, and a bill with the gratuities already in it. The catch is the Journey Guide: Mii amo's signature service, named twice in 199 reviews since the rebuild and never once since 2023. Right for solo travelers working through something; wrong for anyone wanting a spa weekend.
Treatments

Treatments

Why this score

Mii amo's menu runs 15 massage and bodywork treatments from $265 to $740, eight facials, and a ceremonial set no other Arizona property carries: Inner Quest at $320 works with sweet grass and rawhide drums, Medicine Wheel at $265 with the four directions. Therapist Mariposa turns up for energy work in March 2023, March 2024 and March 2025 reviews, three consecutive years of recurrence. Two catches: Watsu has quietly left the menu, and one March 2026 guest found treatments booked out four weeks ahead of a Journey already paid for.

Spa Facilities

Spa Facilities

Why this score

The treatment floor at Mii amo runs 21 rooms plus a five-room consultation wing for 23 guests, inside a 42,000 sq ft complex that also holds the restaurant, gardens and two-story fitness studios. Sauna, steam room, whirlpool and the Journey Plunge Pool cover the thermal side, and there is no hammam, salt room or cryotherapy. The Crystal Grotto is the piece nothing else has, and its flaw is acoustic: two reviewers independently describe staff conversation outside carrying into the dome and ending the meditation.

Wellness Programs

Wellness Programs

Why this score

Programming is what Mii amo actually sells: 50-plus classes a week in 3,300 sq ft of two-story studios, consultations, lectures, and six scheduled Crystal Grotto rituals running from a 7:50am sitting to a monthly full-moon ceremony. Hiking draws praise in 52 of the 199 post-rebuild reviews I parsed, uniformly positive. The gap sits at the top. The Journey Guide, the service the whole model sells itself on, draws exactly two guest mentions since February 2023, both of them in 2023.

Staff & Service

Staff & Service

Why this score

Forbes Travel Guide awarded Mii amo five stars on February 11, 2026, and a Five-Star rating is fundamentally a service audit rather than a facilities one. TripAdvisor's service subrating sits at 4.8 across 835 reviews, with the platform's own attribute chip reading "Warm." Four practitioners recur across multiple years in the post-rebuild record, and mindfulness lead Kim McDermott has been with the group more than 20 years. One dissent, and only one: a June 2025 guest found the enthusiasm performative.

Experience

Experience

Why this score

Mii amo ranks first of 23 specialty lodgings in Sedona on TripAdvisor at 4.8 from 835 reviews, and 4.6 from 277 on Google. Underneath it, three quarters of that TripAdvisor corpus predates the February 2023 rebuild. Split the post-rebuild set by year and it climbs 4.59, 4.70, 4.80, 4.91. That makes 2026 the best year on record. Two cautions: solicitation runs at 77 percent of the post-rebuild set, and eight of those reviews came from Enchantment guests who never stayed here.

Value for Money

Value for Money

Why this score

Value is where Mii amo divides its own guests, and TripAdvisor's value subrating of 4.5 is its lowest of six, under an attribute chip reading "Expensive." The fee model beats its neighbors on the same 70 acres: no resort fee where Enchantment charges $73.36 a night, gratuities inside the price, a $15.96 destination assessment for the whole stay, and tax at 6.7 percent. Then the booking engine advertises a March night at $1,906.84 "including all fees" and checks out at $1,973.83 — a $200.97 gap across three nights.

Spa Facilities

  • Beauty Services

Eight facials, $265 to $475, on BABOR and VOYA products.

  • Couples Treatments

One couples-configured massage room. Duet services add $65 per person.

  • Fitness Center

Two-story Fitness and Movement Studios overlooking the Sensory Garden, 3,300 sq ft.

  • Full-Service Spa

21 treatment rooms plus a five-room consultation wing, 26 in total, for 23 guests. The 42,000 sq ft figure in circulation covers the whole complex, restaurant and gardens included, not the treatment floor. No spa-only footprint is published.

  • Hot Tub/Jacuzzi

A communal whirlpool. Selected Luxury Suites add a private one in the room, and the two-bedroom configuration puts a whirlpool in the courtyard.

  • Pool Facilities

The Journey Plunge Pool, outdoors, reserved for Journey guests. The property publishes no temperature, so the widely-repeated "cold plunge" framing is unconfirmed.

  • Sauna

In the communal spa area with the steam room and whirlpool. Several sources call it cedar; I could not trace that to the property. One 2025 first-hand account says it does not always reach full heat.

  • Steam Room

Communal, in the same wing as the sauna. Enchantment guests reach it only one hour either side of a booked treatment, on that day.

  • Wellness Programs

More than 50 classes a week across 3,300 sq ft of two-story studios, plus consultations, lectures, and six scheduled Crystal Grotto rituals weekly, from a 7:50am morning sitting to a monthly full-moon ceremony.

Other facilities

  • Adult Only

Sixteen and over throughout, with no children's program. Enchantment next door runs Camp Coyote for families.

  • Air Conditioning
  • Bar

A full wine list, cocktail menu, bottled beer and a zero-proof section at Hummingbird; the Juice Bar runs bar and wine service in the evenings. Not a dry property.

  • Bike Rentals

Through Enchantment's Trail House, usable against the daily credit.

  • Concierge Service

Books transfers, which matters here: the property states a car or booked transfer is necessary, and Enchantment's own arrivals page warns that Sedona rideshare may not be available.

  • Dry Cleaning
  • Garden Areas

The Sensory Garden with a reflexology path, plus the working Chef's Garden that supplies Hummingbird. Guest garden tours run twice weekly.

  • Restaurant

Hummingbird, under executive chef Zach Woodworth since September 2024, sourcing from an on-site Chef's Garden. Three meals a day are inside the Journey price. Enchantment guests need a reservation; the general public cannot book at all.

  • Tennis

At Enchantment, reachable by Mii amo guests along with the Trail House activity program.

  • WIFI

Property-wide, but phones and audio playback are barred from communal spa and gathering areas.

Peak (February to April): from $1,851.30 per person per night, three-night Journey, single occupancy · the Casita Double Queen that costs $1,401.30 off-season runs $1,891.30 in March, a 35% spring premium. Off-Season (May to January): from $1,401.30 per person per night · August 2026 and January 2027 priced identically to the cent. The Spa Experience at Mii Amo

Mii amo is the only Five-Star wellness resort in North America, a rating Forbes handed it in February 2026, three years after a $40 million rebuild. This is not a hotel with a spa. Twenty-one treatment rooms serve 23 guests, and you cannot buy a night of it. The Spa, Specifically: Mii amoSee more

Mii amo is the only Five-Star wellness resort in North America, a rating Forbes handed it in February 2026, three years after a $40 million rebuild. This is not a hotel with a spa. Twenty-one treatment rooms serve 23 guests, and you cannot buy a night of it.

The Spa, Specifically: Mii amo

The treatment floor runs 21 rooms plus a five-room consultation wing, inside a 42,000 sq ft complex holding Hummingbird, the gardens and two stories of fitness studios. The menu opens with 15 massage and bodywork formats from $265 to $740. Eight facials start at $265, and it pays to know which facial does what first. Then it goes where no other Arizona property follows: Inner Quest at $320 works with sweet grass and rawhide drums, Medicine Wheel at $265 with the four directions. Thermal is sauna, steam room, whirlpool and the Journey Plunge Pool. Nobody hands you a sequence, so learn how to use a sauna. No hammam. No salt room, no cryotherapy.

The Crystal Grotto is the piece nothing else has, and it is older than most people assume: original to the 2001 property, refreshed rather than rebuilt in the 2021–23 work, an earthen floor under a domed ceiling with a quartz crystal on petrified wood that the sun strikes through an aperture every summer solstice. Six ritual slots run weekly. It carries one flaw, described independently by two guests: staff conversation outside the dome carries in and ends the meditation.

Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong

Book it if you are working through something. Grief, a transition, a decision you have been circling: 19 solo travelers in the post-rebuild record say exactly that, and 17 of them left five stars. The trails help, and 52 reviewers call them walkable alone. Book elsewhere if you want a spa weekend, because there isn’t one on sale. The arrival days don’t move, the shortest Journey outside summer and midwinter runs three nights, and the $265 daily credit covers precisely one entry-level treatment: a 60-minute Swedish costs $265 on the nose.

Where It Sits in the Sedona Market

Mii amo is the property the rest of Sedona gets measured against, and it is not close. Enchantment Resort shares the same 70 acres, owner and canyon, then charges a $73.36 nightly resort fee Mii amo does not. L’Auberge de Sedona wins on flexibility and Oak Creek and never pretends to compete on structure. Ambiente has the architecture. None of them sells a program you cannot buy by the day, which is the proposition and also the honest limit: there is no dropping in. In 199 post-rebuild reviews, not one guest minded.

Updated August 2026: Forbes Travel Guide awarded Mii amo its first Five-Star rating in February 2026, and TripAdvisor volume is now 835. The 9.1 holds on refreshed evidence, with the composition redistributed. Corrections: Forbes says North America’s first Five-Star wellness resort, not the world’s. August and January price identically while March runs 35% higher, so summer is no value season. Three nights is $4,203.90, not $4,600. The 20% gratuity applies to standalone treatments. Two-night Journeys run seasonally. Casita wear and performative service were each one review in 199. The count is 21 treatment rooms plus a five-room consultation wing.

Platform ratings: 4.8/5 across 835 TripAdvisor reviews, #1 of 23 Sedona specialty lodgings, subratings running 5.0 location to 4.5 value; 4.6/5 across 277 on Google; 4.6/5 across 37 for Hummingbird separately. Sources: miiamo.com spa, menu, fitness, offers and team pages; the property’s booking engine, three checkouts captured August 2026; Enchantment’s guest-access and arrivals pages; Forbes Travel Guide and Relais & Châteaux listings; renovation press. 833 TripAdvisor reviews parsed, 2010 to 2026. Disclosure: 154 of 199 post-reopening reviews are marked “collected in partnership with this hotel,” and eight came from Enchantment guests who never stayed. Both sets sit outside the cited patterns. Data gaps: spa-only square footage, the sauna material, the plunge pool’s temperature, the current spa director, and what the “Journey Package Tax” is. These are with the property.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is Mii amo, and how far is the airport?

Mii amo sits at 525 Boynton Canyon Rd, about eight miles and 15 minutes from Uptown Sedona, at 4,500 feet. Phoenix Sky Harbor is roughly two hours away by road, Flagstaff Pulliam about an hour. You need a car or a booked transfer to get here, because the property itself says so and because Sedona rideshare is thin enough that Enchantment's own arrivals page tells guests not to count on it. Groome Transportation runs a scheduled shared shuttle from Sky Harbor from $89 one-way, reserved in advance. Once you arrive, you do not need the car again: excursions leave from the property.

Is Mii amo a hotel with a spa, or something else?

Something else. It is a destination spa, which means you buy a program rather than a room, and the spa is not an amenity you hope has availability. You arrive on a set day, meet a Journey Guide, and follow a schedule built around what you said you came for.

What does a Journey cost?

A three-night Journey in the entry Casita King ran $1,851.30 per person per night on the booking engine for March 2027, and the same Casita Double Queen ran $1,401.30 for August 2026 and January 2027 alike. Three nights in that Double Queen came to $4,203.90 before tax and $4,486.11 after. Two people sharing pay materially less each: the single supplement runs about $232 per person per night.

What is included, and what is not?

Accommodation, three meals a day at Hummingbird, a $265 daily spa credit per person, all 50-plus weekly fitness classes, consultations, lectures, the Juice Bar, and the taxes, fees and gratuities on all of it. Seven- and ten-night Journeys add a meal each at Enchantment's Che Ah Chi and Tii Gavo. Alcohol, retail, and any treatment beyond the daily credit are charged separately, with their own tax and gratuity.

Is tipping expected?

Not on anything inside your Journey. Gratuities sit in the price already, and guests confirm nobody ever hands them a bill. That does not extend to standalone treatments bought by Enchantment guests, where a 20% gratuity is added, and reviewers have been caught out by it.

How far does the $265 daily credit go?

Exactly one entry-level treatment a day. A 60-minute Swedish massage is $265, a 60-minute facial the same. An 80-minute deep tissue is $355, and the 100-minute Ancestral Stone is $475, so anything longer or deeper is paid on top. The Journey Beyond tier doubles the credit to $530 a day for a flat $355.02 per night.

When can I arrive?

Arrival days are fixed. Three-night Journeys start Thursday, four-night on Sunday, seven-night on Sunday or Thursday, ten-night on Thursday. Two-night Journeys, which run only in summer and midwinter, take Sunday or Tuesday arrivals.

Is there really a two-night option?

Yes, seasonally, in June through August and December through February. It is easy to miss because most coverage repeats a three-night minimum, and it is worth asking about if three nights is the thing stopping you.

What is the Crystal Grotto?

A domed meditation chamber with an earthen floor and a quartz crystal set on petrified wood, lit by an overhead aperture that aligns with the summer solstice. It is original to the 2001 property. Six ritual sessions run each week, and Enchantment guests attend them too.

What treatments are on the menu?

Fifteen massage and bodywork formats from $265 to $740, eight facials, five body treatments, and an unusually deep holistic set: Reiki, Energy Clearing, Chakra Balancing, sound baths, Past Life Regression, Aura Photography, and Native American-inspired ceremonial work under two names, Inner Quest at $320 and Medicine Wheel at $265. Watsu was offered before the renovation and is not on the current menu.

Can I visit for the day?

No. There are no day passes, and no walk-in access to the spa, the restaurant or the Grotto. The only route in without a Journey is staying at Enchantment Resort next door and booking a treatment.

What do Enchantment guests get at Mii amo?

Guests 16 and over can book treatments and dine at Hummingbird with a reservation, and use the Fitness and Movement Studios, the Boutique, the Juice Bar and the twice-daily Grotto rituals. Access to the Living Room, pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool is narrower than most people expect: one hour either side of a booked service, on that day only.

What is the age policy?

Sixteen and over, everywhere, with no children's program. Enchantment next door runs Camp Coyote for families.

What changed in the 2023 renovation?

Mii amo closed in early 2021 and reopened on February 2, 2023, after a $40 million rebuild by Gluckman Tang, the original architects. Seven casitas were added across three new buildings, taking the property from 16 rooms to 23; the treatment floor was expanded, and the fitness studios, consultation wing, Journey Plunge Pool, Living Room and Hummingbird are all new. The Crystal Grotto was refreshed rather than rebuilt. Guest scores took three years to recover from the reopening, and 2026 is the property's strongest year on record.

What is the cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit including tax is taken at booking, with the balance charged 30 days out. Cancel 31 or more days ahead and the deposit is refunded in full. Inside 30 days, a cancellation, a no-show or an early departure is charged at 100% of the whole stay.
