Pebble Beach Company runs three hotels, one Five-Star spa, and the most famous golf course in America. The spa is the piece nobody writes about properly. Guests worked it out anyway: the circuit, the fire pit, the full day that starts with one $145 treatment. (The gold facial? Nobody mentions it.)
The Spa, Specifically: The Spa at Pebble Beach
The Spa at Pebble Beach is a 22,000-square-foot, two-story facility beside Casa Palmero, and the Monterey Peninsula’s only Forbes Five-Star spa. It opened in 2000; one building serves all three resort hotels. Room counts depend on which of the resort’s own pages you read: the facilities page details 16 massage rooms and 6 facial rooms while the spa landing page says 15 and 5, and that small self-disagreement tells you how little scrutiny this place usually gets. Each locker wing carries its own steam, sauna, whirlpool, and cold-plunge circuit, and the 82°F outdoor pool runs year-round. Access works on the all-day model: any service of $145 or more opens everything until 6:30 pm, the same gate structure I wrote up at The Phoenician in Scottsdale. What guests actually rave about is that circuit and the fire-pit Sanctuary. Across 160 reviews I parsed, the wet areas and lounges out-mention the marketed signature treatments 40 to 0. Locker wings read as recently redone (“felt pretty new and up to date,” September 2024); Pebble Beach has not published a renovation date, so I am not printing one.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Book the spa day that wraps around someone else’s tee time. Twelve of the 50 spa reviews describe exactly that arrangement, usually a wife while “the guys” play the Links. Book it too if a proper thermal circuit is the point: no Peninsula competitor runs one this deep. Skip it if you audit bills for sport (the 3.4 value subrating is fifteen years of guests telling you something), if you expect flawless treatment execution, or if you assume a quiet room will be quiet. Acoustics complaints span 2014 to 2024.
Where It Sits in the Carmel Market
No other spa on the Monterey Peninsula holds a Forbes Five-Star rating, and none comes close on scale: Bernardus Lodge runs 5,300 square feet, Spa Aiyana at Carmel Valley Ranch about 10,500. The Valley’s counterpunch is access. Bernardus includes its thermal circuit with the resort fee, no treatment required: the model I credited Sanctuary Camelback Mountain for. Refuge, twenty minutes inland, sells a pure silent circuit with no hotel attached. Pebble Beach answers with ceiling: the complete Five-Star day, one booking, everything included. On hardware, this is the property every Carmel review will measure against.

Where is The Lodge at Pebble Beach, and how far is the airport?
On 17-Mile Drive at Pebble Beach Golf Links itself, about 8 minutes from Carmel-by-the-Sea and 20 minutes from Monterey Regional Airport. San Jose's airport is roughly 90 minutes north, San Francisco just over two hours. A gate controls 17-Mile Drive access; your room confirmation waives the entry fee.
Can I use The Spa at Pebble Beach without staying at the resort?
Yes. Day guests are welcome with a booked spa service of $145 or more, which includes full use of the facilities: locker-wing steam, sauna, ionization room, whirlpool, cold plunge, the outdoor pool, and the Conservatory lounges. There is no facilities-only day pass.
Do hotel guests get free spa access?
No. The same $145 minimum-service rule applies to resort guests, including guests of the Lodge itself. One booked treatment converts to a full spa day; arriving 45 minutes early to use the circuit first is the spa's own recommendation.
Does the spa add a service charge?
Yes, 22% on all spa services except day packages, and the listed prices already include it. Pebble Beach states that the spa retains a portion as an administrative fee, with the remainder distributed to spa employees. Guest reports from earlier years describe the charge as adjustable on request.

Not under that name. A $30 nightly service charge applies at the Lodge, already included in the displayed room rate (August 2026 booking-engine check; Casa Palmero charges $35, Spanish Bay $37). Valet and self-parking are complimentary. Pebble Beach prices rooms the way it prices its spa menu: the figure you see includes the charge.
What is the spa's age policy?
Eighteen and over for the spa, with the salon accepting guests 14 and up.
How do guests at the resort's other hotels reach the spa?
Casa Palmero guests walk; the spa is next door. From The Inn at Spanish Bay, the resort shuttle departs on the hour and half hour and arrives at the spa about 25 minutes later. Published end times for the shuttle vary between sources, so confirm the last run at the concierge desk.
Is the Lodge worth it if you don't play golf?
Honestly: only if the spa and the coastline are the trip. A March 2025 guest put it plainly: "it was just a golf hotel at the end of the day." The location subrating on TripAdvisor is 4.9 and the 18th-green setting is genuinely singular, but the rate premium pays for proximity to a tee time you may never use.
When should I avoid booking?
Three windows. Early February's AT&T Pro-Am, Car Week in mid-to-late August (the 2026 Concours falls on August 20), and June 2027, when the U.S. Open returns to Pebble Beach and rates across the Peninsula will spike. Winter outside event weeks is the quiet, cheaper season.
What changed in the 2025 renovation?
From February to November 2025 the Lodge ran its first major overhaul in a century: new kitchens, a rebuilt Tap Room and Bench, refreshed guest rooms, and Stillwater Bar & Grill reopened on November 4, 2025 with a new dining room and menu. Guests who stayed mid-renovation reported daily construction noise; that period is over.
Is the spa shared with the other Pebble Beach hotels?
Yes. One 22,000 sq ft facility serves the Lodge, Casa Palmero, and The Inn at Spanish Bay. There is no second spa on the resort, so peak-day bookings draw from all three hotels plus day guests.
Does the golf construction at Spanish Bay affect a Lodge stay?
Barely. Spanish Bay's golf course closed in March 2026 for a Gil Hanse redesign (reopening spring 2027) and its Sticks restaurant closed in April 2026, but both sit on the other side of the peninsula from the Lodge. Pebble Beach Golf Links, the spa, and the Lodge's restaurants operate normally.
