Against that, the counterweights are honest: a $75 spa day pass, 20% resident Tuesdays, summer rooms from $134, and Honors points on the room. The Scottsdale Resort opened in 1976 as the country’s first purpose-built conference resort, and it spent $40 million between 2022 and 2024 becoming somewhere you’d book on purpose. Inside it, the surprise is Luna Spa: nine rooms, a complete contrast circuit, and a therapist bench guests know by name.
The Spa, Specifically: Luna Spa
Luna Spa fits a complete contrast circuit into 3,200 square feet: his-and-hers dry saunas, a coed steam room, a cold plunge, and the hot tub that the most-read independent review of this hotel insists the property doesn’t have. It does. It arrived in 2025, outdoors, behind the spa’s 18-and-over door. Access is unusually open for Scottsdale: any treatment includes the circuit, and a $75 ResortPass day pass buys it outright, no treatment required. Run the stations in the right order (the payoff logic is in our guide to how a hydrotherapy circuit works) and the compact footprint stops mattering. Its menu has personality: Himalayan hot-stone massage, cranial sacral therapy, CBD fire-and-ice work, prenatal treatments, at $199 to $259 before the 22% service charge, with Arizona residents taking 20% off on Tuesdays. Guests book Jon, Malia, Marwa, and Angela by name. One March 2026 reviewer called the whole footprint “more like a boutique spa,” and she meant it kindly. Plan around two limits: the pools are resort-side rather than in-spa, and the doors close at 5 pm. Book the morning, stay until the bell.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
The Scottsdale Resort works best for people whose spa day is half the plan, not all of it. Book it if you’re pairing golf with a massage, cycling the greenbelt, burning Hilton points, or buying the $75 day pass as a local. Midweek, ideally. Skip it if spa immersion is the whole trip: nine rooms and a 5 pm close cannot carry a wellness vacation, and a conference or wedding buyout can shut the venues you booked for (it happened to an April 2026 guest). A mid-tier rate buys a real circuit here, not a destination spa.
Where It Sits in the Scottsdale Market
In the Scottsdale market, The Scottsdale Resort is the thermal-circuit bargain, not the destination. The Phoenician remains the benchmark: its 24-room, Forbes-graded spa operates a league above, but runs the same treatment-booking gate I’ve flagged there before, where Luna hands day-pass buyers the whole circuit for $75. Sanctuary Camelback Mountain includes spa access with its resort fee too, at roughly double the nightly rate. The Scott matches this price tier with better design and no comparable thermal sequence. Nobody else in mid-tier Scottsdale offers this circuit this cheaply. What you trade away is scale, polish, and the lanyard risk.
Updated August 2026: the resort fee rose from $40 to $45 plus tax, a 22% spa service charge is now documented, self-parking left the published inclusions (guests report $25 a day; we’ve asked), and winter 2027 weekends spot-checked at $550 to $764 all-in against our prior $280-to-$550 peak bracket. Day passes run $30 to $209 via ResortPass; the outdoor hot tub is a 2025 addition. Correction: we previously credited therapist praise to 3,200-plus TripAdvisor reviews; those names live on the spa’s own listings (113 Google, 17 TripAdvisor), with Linda appearing once, not recurring. SpaRator recalibrated from 7.8 to 7.7.

Where is The Scottsdale Resort, and how far is the airport?
At 7700 E McCormick Parkway in McCormick Ranch, about 20 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor by car. Old Town Scottsdale is 5 miles south, roughly a 10-minute drive. McCormick Ranch's 7-mile greenbelt trail runs directly past the property, and 36 holes of golf sit immediately adjacent.
Can I use Luna Spa without staying at the resort?
Yes, three ways. ResortPass sells a pool day pass from $30, a Luna Spa amenity pass from $75 (cold plunge, saunas, steam, hot tub, Zen garden, plus McCormick Pool access), and a treatment-plus-pool package from $209. Everyone in the spa is 18 or over, ID checked, and treatments are also open to outside visitors booking directly.
What thermal facilities does Luna Spa have?

9 am to 5 pm daily, per the hotel's site and Google's owner-verified listing. One honest wrinkle: the ResortPass listing states day-pass access as 10 am to 4 pm, and nobody has reconciled the two in print. We have asked the spa which window day guests actually get.
Does the spa add a service charge?
Yes: 22%, calculated on the original treatment price. The figure currently appears in the fine print of the spa's Tranquil Tuesday offer, and we have asked the property to confirm it applies to every service. Budget for it either way.
What is the resort fee, and what does it cover?
$45 per night plus tax. It covers Wi-Fi, bike rentals, fitness and yoga classes, lawn games, Social Boardroom access, use of McCormick Ranch Golf Club's putting and chipping areas, 15% off dinner at La Fogata, and 10% off select Luna Spa services. Self-parking is the open question: it was in the bundle at $40, no current inclusion list names it, and recent guests report $25 a day.
How much do treatments cost?
Luna publishes rotating specials rather than a static menu: a 50-minute Prickly Pear HydraLuxe facial runs $199 and an 80-minute Desert Breeze massage $259, both before the 22% service charge. Arizona residents get 20% off on Tuesdays. A full price list is one of the questions we have put to the spa.
Is the resort good for families?
For the resort, yes; for the spa, no. Pools, greenbelt bikes, lawn games, and the Social Boardroom absorb kids easily, and pets under 75 lbs come too (for a steep $125 flat fee). Luna Spa is 18 and over with no exceptions, day passes included.
Will a conference take over the resort during my stay?
It can, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest: this property was built in 1976 as the country's first conference resort. An April 2026 guest found the Social Boardroom and The Madam closed for a wedding, and conference titles dominate a noticeable share of recent reviews. Leisure travelers should ask what groups are in house before booking, or aim midweek in summer.
When was the resort renovated, and what changed?
A $40 million renovation completed in May 2024 rebuilt all guestrooms, added La Fogata, The Madam, Barnaby's, and the Social Boardroom, and refreshed Luna Spa. Ownership and flags changed too: Driftwood Capital bought it in February 2022, ending its Destination by Hyatt run, and it joined Hilton's Curio Collection during the rebuild.
What golf is available?
McCormick Ranch Golf Club's two 18-hole championship courses sit immediately adjacent, and resort guests get playing privileges plus putting and chipping access through the resort fee. Because the club is family-owned (the Pincus family, since 1979) rather than a hotel amenity, confirm current tee-time terms and rates when you book.
When should I book, and what will it cost?
Summer, if price is the driver. A late-July 2027 checkout priced rooms from $134 a night (about $211 all-in), a June spot-check ran from $254, and winter weekends ran roughly $550 to $764 all-in depending on the week. Winter is peak golf season and conference season at once, so the calendar's cheap months and its quiet months are the same months.
Does Hilton Honors apply here?
Yes. As a Curio Collection property the resort participates fully in Hilton Honors, and booking direct earns points and the member rate. Whether Luna Spa treatments earn points is a detail we have asked the property to confirm rather than assume.
