Sitting at 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard, directly across from East Beach, the resort has the Santa Barbara Zoo next door and the Andree Clark Bird Refuge behind. Santa Barbara Airport is roughly 20 minutes by car; Los Angeles International is about 95 miles and two hours up the 101. Stearns Wharf and lower State Street are a flat ten-minute bike ride along the waterfront path, and two hours of bike rental sit inside the resort fee, so a car is optional.

Yes, but it is a third-party operation, not a Hilton spa. Float Luxury Spa Beachfront has run the spa since February 26, 2025, seven days a week. Our earlier review described Spa Del Mar as weekend-only, and that was wrong at publish: it had closed. Float also runs its original spa downtown on Cañon Perdido Street, which is the detail worth checking when you book an appointment.

Spa Del Mar closed. Google marks it permanently closed and Yelp shows it closed, with its last recommended review from December 2024. Float Luxury Spa Beachfront opened in the same space on February 26, 2025, and is the on-site spa now. What is unchanged is the phone number, (805) 884-8540, which now rings Float.

Float Beachfront is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday through Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A 50-minute Float Signature massage is $165 and 75 minutes is $225; the Deep massage starts at $180, body rituals from $185, and facials from $185 to $375. A 20% service charge is added to every service automatically, and cancelling inside 24 hours means the full charge.

On weekdays, yes: a Float treatment includes complimentary access to the resort pool and jacuzzi Monday through Friday. On weekends, a treatment gets you a discounted $35 Resort Day Pass. Float recommends allowing extra time to reach the spa through the resort, and spa guests park free.

Resort charge runs $40 per room per night and is taxed at 14.28%, which pushes it to $45.71 a night. It covers WiFi on two devices, two hours of bike rental, two hours of beach chairs for two, fitness classes, two bottled waters a day, 90 minutes of pickleball court time, and some local discounts. In April 2023 the fee was $30 and actually used to include a percentage off spa treatments; that discount is gone.

Self-parking is $42 a night plus tax and valet is $50 plus tax, both with in-and-out privileges. Uncovered and beside the Amtrak tracks, the self-park lot draws guest mentions. Spa guests park free on a treatment day.

It is one of the better family options on the sand side of the 101, and summer weekends run $719 a night before the fee. There is no kids club, but there are six pickleball courts, a pool deck with new cabanas, free zoo puppets poolside on summer Saturdays, and the zoo next door. Rooms have private balconies or patios, and 335 rooms plus 25 suites spread across eight buildings mean a lot of walking.

TripAdvisor sits at 3.7 from 4,611 reviews, Google at 4.1 from 3,559, and Yelp at 2.5 from 577. In the 359 TripAdvisor reviews I parsed, 60% land at one or five stars, a bimodal split. Service and front-desk complaints lead the negatives, and the recent 2026 lift rides on a single front-desk name, Alexx. Guests love the beach and the location, and complain most about dated rooms, maintenance, and the fee.

Built by the actor who played Davy Crockett, the property was Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort for decades, and it reopened as the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort on April 24, 2018 under owner Park Hotels & Resorts. A $14 million renovation followed, and a second phased renovation (six pickleball courts, a redone pool deck, Float Luxury Spa) completed in 2025.

Late fall to winter runs cheapest, and January especially. Two booking-engine checkouts for January and July 2027 stays showed $309 for January Thursday and Sunday nights with $409 weekend nights, against a $349 July floor that hits $719 on summer weekends. Winter bargain-hunters still feel the flat resort charge most: its tax-adjusted $45.71 is 14.8% of a $309 night and only 6.4% of a $719 Saturday.

Some rooms hear the train, and recent guests have said so: two TripAdvisor reviews from 2025 and 2026 name a horn disrupting sleep and a whistle from the room, while the uncovered self-park lot sits beside the tracks where trains run all night. Rooms spread across eight buildings, so exposure is uneven. Request, if it matters to you, a room away from the tracks.

Yes, but none of them is a spa product. ResortPass lists Day Pass, Day Pass plus fitness, day rooms, daybeds, cabanas and pickleball memberships, rated 4.1 from 215 reviews. ResortPass rendered its prices in euros when I captured them, so price a pass on the site before assuming. Float sells treatments separately.

On beachfront location, family scale and a seven-day spa, the Hilton wins. Hotel Californian keeps the better rooms, the Funk Zone location, and a small but real wet facility, and runs a $600-a-month spa membership. If the spa or the room finish is the point, Californian is the better buy; for the beach and the kids, the Hilton.

Mar Monte next door at 1111 East Cabrillo has no spa, just in-room QR-code massage and a lower $35 fee. Hilton now beats it on grounds, a real seven-day treatment spa, and scale, while sharing the same train-side location. What narrows the gap is that the signature-silence pattern I found at Mar Monte holds here: the spa at the Hilton is infrastructure, not identity.
