Santa Barbara spent decades calling this property the Fess Parker (the waterfront resort the Davy Crockett actor built on 24 beachfront acres), and the Hilton reflag never quite overwrote the name or the bones. What stands today is the largest resort on the Santa Barbara waterfront: some 360 balconied rooms across from East Beach, with the zoo next door and the bike path out front. Its spa is the smallest thing about it.
The Spa, Specifically
Spa Del Mar is a weekend operation in the most literal sense: Friday 10 to 5, Sunday 10 to 3, closed the four days between.
The menu is a boutique’s: custom massages on jojoba oil, facials, and two signature 90-minute packages at $225, the Santa Barbara Salt Glow and the Dead Sea Mud & Bamboo Fusion. All of it is delivered without wet facilities of any kind; treatment bookings borrow the resort’s outdoor pool and jacuzzi instead, and no sauna or steam room.
Then there is the status question this review has to surface: as of July 2026, the spa closed while its own social channels advertise weekend hours. Whichever is true week to week, the pattern tells you what the spa is to this resort: an amenity that opens when demand justifies staffing, not an operation the property is built around. Call before booking anything that depends on it; treat any confirmation as good for that weekend only.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Book the Hilton for a family beach week: the balconies, the grounds, the bikes, the zoo next door, and the most accessible beachfront rates in the city make it the waterfront’s practical choice, especially on points.
Book elsewhere for anything spa-shaped: a three-day (possibly zero-day) treatment boutique with no steam, sauna, or dedicated wet space cannot anchor a wellness trip at any price, and the $80-plus daily fee stack erases the rate advantage for shorter stays.ys.
Where It Sits in the Market
The Ritz-Carlton Bacara is the benchmark property for the Santa Barbara market, and the comparison here is almost unfair: Bacara’s 42,000-square-foot, seven-day spa against a weekend boutique, at double the rate but ten times the facility. The Hilton’s real competitive set is the waterfront mid-tier: it beats Mar Monte on grounds and scale while losing to Hotel Californian on rooms, walkability, and spa reliability. Its structural advantage is unglamorous and real: it is the only large family resort on the sand side of the 101, and for that guest the spa was never the point.

The resort is at 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard, directly across from East Beach — about 20 minutes from Santa Barbara Airport and two hours from Los Angeles International. Stearns Wharf and lower State Street are a ten-minute bike ride along the flat waterfront path, with rental bikes on site.
Is the spa open every day?
No — Spa Del Mar runs Friday through Sunday only (Friday 10–5, Sunday 10–3), and as of mid-2026 its operating status conflicts across listings: Yelp marks it closed while its own social channels show weekend hours. Call the spa directly before building any plans around it. Can I use the pool without staying?
