Kimpton Canary is a 97-room downtown hotel that TripAdvisor ranks #4 of 7 among Santa Barbara’s “Best Spa Resorts.” The hotel’s own FAQ says it has no spa, no hot tub, and no fitness center. That gap between distribution and reality is the review.
The Spa, Specifically
Kimpton Canary’s FAQ is admirably direct: “No, Hotel Canary does not have a spa on-site.” What exists instead is a small network of off-site arrangements. Float Luxury Spa at 18 E. Canon Perdido Street is the named partner, within walking distance, and hotel guests receive a complimentary $25-value enhancement with a service. In-room massage options book through a third-party platform on a hotel-branded page, not through Float’s own site. A newer partner, Soul Care Studio and Sauna, takes 10% off infrared sauna, salt therapy, cold plunge, and guided meditation with code CANARYGUEST10. There is Saturday rooftop yoga, and a mat in each room. Across the 250 TripAdvisor reviews I parsed, almost nobody uses any of it. Zero mention massage, zero mention Float, one “spa” mention: a 2026 guest who expected more. It is the signature-silence pattern I flagged at Omni Montelucia.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Right for the car-free Santa Barbara tourist, the IHG loyalist, and the dog owner who wants no pet fees. Walkable location, wine hour, rooftop, and warm staff reward a two-night downtown break; no pet fees tip it for dog owners. Wrong for the spa-hunter, and also wrong for guests who need a quiet room or a lap pool. The $45 fee buys a city-center rooftop, not a resort.

The market benchmark is The Ritz-Carlton Bacara. Downtown, the real peer is Hotel Californian, whose Majorelle spa runs 2,500 square feet with four treatment rooms and steam only. Rosewood Miramar Beach sells a $75 non-guest spa day pass at the top of the market. The Canary is not contesting that lane. Where is the Kimpton Canary, and how close is the airport?
Kimpton Canary sits at 31 West Carrillo Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, between State Street and Chapala and next to Paseo Nuevo. Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is about 8 miles west of downtown, roughly a 15-minute drive, and no airport shuttle is advertised. Once checked in, State Street, dining, and the beach are walkable, so a car is unnecessary for a downtown break; this is a city-center rooftop hotel, not a resort.
Does the Kimpton Canary have a spa?
No. The hotel's own FAQ says "Hotel Canary does not have a spa on-site."
