SpaRator 7.8: Excellent

Sandpearl Resort

Sandpearl Resort, 500 Mandalay Ave, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767, USA

SpaRatorHow SpaRator scores work

One of Clearwater Beach's strongest resorts, with a large, well-kept but unadventurous spa.
7.8 out of 10
0246810
The 12,000 sq ft Opal Spa runs seven treatment rooms, two Couples Suites, and a sauna, steam, and whirlpool circuit — a strong, well-kept facility. Sandpearl also holds the only private beach on Clearwater Beach. The limits are real: the treatment menu stays conventional, wellness programming is thin, and a stack of extras — resort fee, beach setups, valet — draws steady complaints. Right for travelers wanting a top Clearwater Beach resort with a capable spa alongside.

Pricing & Availability

$500
night
Peak Season (February–April, plus holiday periods): roughly $500–$850 per night for standard rooms; suites higher. March and the spring break stretch are the costliest. Off-Season (late August–November): roughly $280–$450 per night, with November typically the lowest point of the year. Summer (June–August): mid-range; domestic family-travel demand keeps Gulf-beach rates firm.
Note: A daily resort fee of around $40 and valet parking near $40 per night apply on top of the room rate. Beach loungers and umbrellas are charged separately. Rates correct as of Spring 2026; verify current availability via the booking links below.

Sandpearl Resort opened in August 2007 as the first new-build on Clearwater Beach in 25 years and the first LEED-certified hotel in Florida. Nearly two decades on, it remains the island’s established luxury anchor — a 253-room beachfront resort holding the only private stretch of sand on an otherwise public beach.

The Spa, Specifically

The Opal Spa covers 12,000 sq ft and has seven treatment rooms, two of which are Couples Suites. The wet area covers the basics — sauna, steam room, whirlpool, a relaxation room — and the facility holds up well; guest reviews rarely flag the spa for the maintenance lapses that catch out properties built in the mid-2000s.

The treatment menu is competent and coastal: massage, body work, facials, a HydraFacial with LED therapy, and two pearl-themed signatures — the Pearl Iridescence facial, built on powdered pearl and botanical extracts, and the Signature Body Iridescence, a crushed-pearl body treatment. A full-service salon sits alongside.

What the spa does not do is lead. There is no float tank, no thermal progression beyond the single sauna-steam-whirlpool sequence, no advanced wellness technology, and no structured program. It is a well-kept, capable resort spa with a real ceiling on depth — high on upkeep and guest satisfaction, limited on treatment range and wellness programming.

Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong

Book Sandpearl if the beach is the point and the spa is a bonus. Couples and families who want a polished AAA Four Diamond resort on top-rated sand — with a competent spa for an afternoon, not a multi-day wellness focus — get what they pay for. The private beach, zero-entry pool, and Camp Ridley kids’ club make the stay.

Book elsewhere if the spa is the reason for the trip. Anyone wanting a wide thermal circuit, a float tank, or a structured wellness program will find the Opal Spa too shallow, and the resort-fee-and-extras stack will grate.

Where It Sits in the Market

On Clearwater Beach, Sandpearl’s direct competition is the Opal Collection’s own newer pair — Opal Sands and the 2025-opened Opal Sol, whose spa adds a Himalayan salt room Sandpearl cannot match — plus the Wyndham Grand, whose smaller 6,000 sq ft Pallavi spa carries a fuller wet circuit with eucalyptus steam and chromatherapy showers. Sandpearl beats all three in beachfront pedigree and private beach access; it trails Opal Sol in spa facilities.

Against the wider Tampa Bay market, The Don CeSar’s 16-room Spa Oceana clearly outranks it. Sandpearl is the solid mid-point — outclassed at the top, comfortably clear of the bottom.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is Sandpearl Resort, and how far is the airport?

The resort is at 500 Mandalay Avenue, at the north end of Clearwater Beach. Tampa International Airport is about 22 miles and a 35-minute drive; St. Pete–Clearwater International is closer at roughly 13 miles. Downtown Tampa is about 40 minutes east.

Does Sandpearl have a private beach?

Yes — it holds the only private section of sand on Clearwater Beach, which is otherwise a public beach. Beach loungers and umbrellas cost extra; the room rate does not include them.

How much do beach loungers and umbrellas cost?

Beach setups cost extra, on top of the room rate. Expect roughly $40 for a single lounger and around $30 for an umbrella, with larger cabana-style setups running up to about $120 per day. Rates vary by season — confirm at booking.

Is there a resort fee, and what does it cover?

Yes. A daily resort fee of around $40 covers Wi-Fi, pool access, and the fitness center. It applies on top of the nightly room rate.

What does the Opal Spa include?

The spa runs 12,000 sq ft with seven treatment rooms, two of them Couples Suites. The wet area has a sauna, a steam room, and a whirlpool, plus a relaxation room and a full-service salon.

Can non-guests book the spa?

Yes. The Opal Spa is open to the public, and the spa recommends booking about two weeks ahead. The private beach and pool remain for registered hotel guests only.

Is there an age limit at the spa?

Yes. The spa treatment and wet areas are limited to guests aged 16 and over. Younger guests can use salon services when an adult accompanies them.

What are the signature spa treatments?

Two pearl-themed signatures define the menu: the Pearl Iridescence facial, built on powdered pearl and botanical extracts, and the Signature Body Iridescence, a crushed-pearl body treatment. A HydraFacial with LED therapy is also offered.

Is gratuity added to spa services?

Yes. The spa adds a 20% service charge automatically to every service. Any further gratuity is at the guest's discretion.

Is Sandpearl family-friendly?

Yes. The Camp Ridley kids' club runs for ages 5–10, and the zero-entry lagoon pool and organized beach activities suit families well. Note that the spa itself is adults-oriented, with a 16-and-over rule.

What dining is on-site?

Three outlets: Caretta on the Gulf, the AAA Four Diamond signature restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch; Tate Island Grill for casual beachfront lunch and dinner; and the Marketplace for coffee, drinks, and snacks.

Was Sandpearl affected by the 2024 hurricanes?

Yes. Like much of Clearwater Beach, it closed briefly for Hurricanes Helene and Milton and reopened on October 12, 2024. It avoided the prolonged multi-month closures that affected some Gulf-front properties further south.

When did the resort open?

Sandpearl opened in August 2007 — the first new resort built on Clearwater Beach in 25 years, and the first LEED-certified hotel in Florida.

Is parking free?

No. Valet parking is the main option, at roughly $40 per night plus tax. The lowest room rates of the year typically fall between late August and November.

How This Review Works

Every SpaRator score is built the same way: six equally weighted categories, scored from more than 40 documented data points per property through independent spa and hotel facility research and analysis of thousands of verified guest reviews, then averaged, never hand-tuned. The result is a consistent, comparable rating across every property we cover. How SpaRator works
