About
The Epicurean Hotel opened in 2013 as a food-and-wine hotel — a boutique Autograph Collection property in Tampa’s SoHo district, built across the street from the legendary Bern’s Steak House. Spa Evangeline carries that theme into the treatment room, but it is a compact day spa rather than a destination.
The Spa, Specifically
Spa Evangeline occupies about 2,830 sq ft on the hotel’s ground floor: five treatment rooms, two of them couples rooms with a tub for two, chromatherapy lighting, and a Kohler steam-duet shower.
The food-and-wine theme is the real charm — Caudalie vinotherapy treatments, FarmHouse Fresh body polishes named for cocktails, and a men’s menu running the Hot Whiskey Scour massage and the Bern’s Bourbon pedicure — and the manicure-pedicure room, walled with 20,000 wine corks, earns its “cellar” nickname.
The limitations, though, are clear. There is no communal sauna, steam room, or whirlpool; the only steam feature is inside the private couples rooms. Guests describe the locker rooms as cramped and poorly designed, and the spa’s own reviews flag rushed treatments and therapist-to-therapist inconsistency — issues compounded by two changes of spa director within roughly nine months and third-party management. The theme is delightful; the facility and the consistency are where the score is lost.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Book the Epicurean for the hotel — a genuinely characterful food-and-wine boutique, with a culinary teaching theater, an in-room artisan pantry, and Bern’s Steak House across the road. A couple looking for a themed treatment in the chromatherapy couples room will enjoy the spa as part of that.
Book elsewhere if the spa is the point of the trip: Spa Evangeline has no thermal circuit, a small footprint, and a documented consistency problem. It is an amenity that fits the hotel’s character, not a reason to travel.
Where It Sits in the Market
The Epicurean is a boutique hotel rather than a resort, so its closest market peers are Tampa’s other downtown-area hotels. Against The Tampa EDITION and the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street — both with larger, more complete urban spas — Spa Evangeline is a day spa by scale.
Against the resort spas of the Sandpearl Resort benchmark and the Clearwater Beach cluster, it does not compete on facilities at all. The Epicurean’s strength is its food-and-wine character; on the spa itself, it sits in the lower half of the Tampa Bay market.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Where is the Epicurean Hotel, and how far is the airport?
It is at 1207 S Howard Avenue, in Tampa's SoHo district, across from Bern's Steak House. Tampa International Airport is about 6 to 7 miles away — a 15-minute drive.
What is the food-and-wine theme?
The Epicurean was conceived by the owner of Bern's Steak House as a hotel for food-and-wine lovers. Every room has an artisan pantry of wines and local provisions, there is a culinary teaching theater on-site, and the theme reaches into Spa Evangeline's treatment menu.
What does Spa Evangeline include?
Spa Evangeline is a ground-floor day spa of about 2,830 sq ft with five treatment rooms, two of them couples rooms featuring a tub for two, chromatherapy lighting, and a Kohler steam-duet shower. There is a relaxation lounge and a manicure-pedicure room walled with 20,000 wine corks.
Does the spa have a sauna or steam room?
There is no communal sauna, steam room, or whirlpool. The only steam feature is the Kohler steam-duet shower inside the private couples treatment rooms. Spa Evangeline is a treatment-room day spa, not a thermal-circuit spa.
What are the signature spa treatments?
The menu follows the food-and-wine theme: Caudalie vinotherapy treatments, FarmHouse Fresh body polishes named for cocktails, and a men's menu with the Hot Whiskey Scour massage and the Bern's Bourbon pedicure.
Is gratuity added to spa services?
Yes. Every spa check carries a 3% administration fee plus an automatic 18% gratuity. A 24-hour cancellation policy applies, with the full treatment value charged for late changes.
Is there an age limit at the spa?
Yes. Spa Evangeline serves guests aged 18 and over only.
What are the spa's hours?
Short, by hotel-spa standards — the spa closes as early as 5 p.m. on most days, opening late morning. Confirm exact hours when booking.
Is there a resort fee, and how much is parking?
There is no resort fee. Parking is valet-only, at about $25 per night for overnight guests.
What dining is on-site?
Élevage SoHo Kitchen & Bar is the signature restaurant; the Lobby Bar and the rooftop EDGE Cocktail Lounge handle drinks; a Chill Bros. ice cream shop and Bern's Fine Wines & Spirits round out the food-and-wine offer. Bern's Steak House itself is across the street.
Is the hotel family-friendly?
It welcomes families, and the Chill Bros. ice cream shop is a draw, but the Epicurean is built around adult food-and-wine interests. The spa is 18 and over, and pets are not allowed.
What is the Epicurean Theatre?
A culinary teaching kitchen and demonstration amphitheater seating about 40, hosting cooking classes, tastings, and mixology sessions with visiting chefs. It is open to the public and bookable for events.
