About
Opal Sands Resort opened in 2016 as a curved, 15-story tower on Clearwater Beach, built so all 230 rooms face the Gulf of Mexico. Its signature is a zero-entry pool that cantilevers over the water. Since February 2025, a glass skybridge has linked it directly to a sister property, Opal Sol.
The Spa, Specifically
The Opal Spa at Opal Sands runs the Opal Collection treatment menu — the multi-step “Journeys” rituals, a full range of massages and facials, HydraFacial, and CBD-infused body work — in a setting with a relaxation lounge and outdoor Gulf-view terraces.
The honest gap is the scale of the on-site spa. However, Opal Sands guests can cross via the new skybridge to Opal Sol and use its newer Opal Spa, which adds a full-service Himalayan salt room and a spa pool deck. So the spa proposition here is best understood as a two-property one: a competent home spa, plus access to a stronger sister facility a short covered walk away.
Judged on its own, the Opal Sands spa is modest; judged on what a guest can actually use, it is a reasonable mid-market offering. A 20% service charge applies to every treatment, and the spa is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Book Opal Sands for the resort first. All-Gulf-view rooms, a pool that hangs over the water, AAA Four Diamond service, and a prime Clearwater Beach address make it a strong oceanfront choice — with a competent spa and salt-room access next door for an unhurried afternoon.
Book elsewhere if the spa is the reason for the trip: there is no substantial, well-documented spa of its own here, and guests wanting a full thermal circuit should look further afield. Anyone who prefers to self-park should also note that valet is the only option.
Where It Sits in the Market
Opal Sands is the established middle child of the Opal Collection’s Clearwater Beach cluster. Against the Sandpearl Resort benchmark a mile up the sand, its own spa is the weaker one — Sandpearl runs a documented 12,000 sq ft, seven-room facility — and Opal Sands leans on the skybridge link to Opal Sol to close the gap.
The Don CeSar, across the bay in St. Pete Beach, outranks all of them on spa scale. Where Opal Sands wins is the resort itself: the cantilevered pool and the wall-to-wall Gulf views are a stronger oceanfront experience than either sibling delivers.

Is there a resort fee?
Yes — $35 per night plus tax. It covers WiFi, two bottled waters, in-room coffee, a per-floor guest pantry, pool and beach towel service, the fitness center, two bicycles per day, and local calls.
Is parking free?
No. Parking is valet-only — there is no self-parking option — at $40 per vehicle per night plus tax. Vehicles taller than 6 feet 10 inches cannot be accommodated.
What dining is on-site?
Three outlets at Opal Sands: SeaGuini, the signature restaurant for handmade pasta and Gulf seafood; the Sandbar beach bar; and Reflections Pool Bar. Guests can also use Opal Sol's restaurants via the skybridge.
Can non-guests book the spa?
Yes, the Opal Spa accepts outside guests; appointments are encouraged about two weeks ahead. The pools and beach service remain for registered hotel guests.
