The Spa Experience at Little Palm Island Resort & Spa
Little Palm Island is the top of the Florida Keys, and it gets there by subtraction. A private 4.5-acre island off the Lower Keys, reachable only by boat or seaplane, with 30 bungalow suites, one restaurant, no children under 16, and a spa built into a thatched pavilion at the water’s edge.
The Spa, Specifically
SpaTerre runs five oceanfront treatment rooms inside a two-story thatched complex, each looking out to the Gulf or onto an interior reflection pond. The Madraguda In-Ocean Sunrise Massage happens in the shallows at dawn, and nothing else in the archipelago offers it. The wider menu leans organic and CBD-infused: macadamia-nut oil and vanilla body wraps, seaweed treatments, acupuncture, sound therapy, all in a dedicated pavilion, with daily yoga and meditation built into the day rather than bolted onto it.
The island does the rest. A 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio means therapists remember your preferences and the kitchen absorbs dietary requests without ceremony, and the concierge handles seaplane arrivals, beach dinners, and multi-day itineraries.
Then the trade-off. There is no sauna, no steam room, and no thermal circuit of any kind: the property spends its space on meditation rooms and an open-air yoga pavilion instead. The fitness center is minimal. Meals sit outside the room rate, and entrees run $55 to $95. The boat or seaplane transfer that makes the place also means no mainland access on demand.
Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong
Book it if you want total adult escape and can absorb the cost: couples and solo travelers making a destination-spa pilgrimage, comfortable with a seaplane and with $2,500-plus a night before dining. Book elsewhere if you want resort variety, real fitness infrastructure, a thermal circuit, family space, or the ability to leave whenever you like. This is a single-vision property and the vision is adult luxury minimalism, so the price buys privacy, service ratio, and one irreplaceable treatment rather than breadth. If breadth is what you are paying for, you will feel the gap by day three.
Where It Sits in the Market
Nothing sits above it in the Keys. There is no direct peer in the Lower Keys either, which makes the real comparison a downgrade question. Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada is the market’s designated benchmark and gives you a genuine thermal circuit, a private beach, golf, and tennis at roughly a quarter of the nightly rate, on the mainland, with children. Playa Largo in Key Largo offers Autograph-flag polish without the island premium or the transfer. Little Palm wins on seclusion and service and loses on everything you can walk to.
Booking Strategy
Book direct, or through a Virtuoso advisor who can surface package rates and ancillary value. Peak-season inventory fills three to six months out, so treat the booking as the first decision rather than the last. May and November hold the weather at lower rates. Budget the seaplane properly: transfers add $400 to $600 per person round trip, and they are easy to leave out of the arithmetic until they land on the folio.
Best Room Types
Every bungalow suite is much the same size, so the choice is about sun and outlook rather than category. Oceanfront Bungalow Suites give unobstructed Gulf views and direct beach access. Ask for the quieter south side of the island if you want the most distance from other guests.
When to Go
December through March brings the warmest ocean, the clearest skies, and the highest rates. May is the shoulder-season pick, with the weather intact and rates 20% to 30% lower. June through August has the warmest water and the lowest rates, along with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Avoid August through October, when hurricane risk is real.
Best Spa Days
Book the Madraguda In-Ocean Sunrise Massage for your first morning and let it set the register for the stay. Save the CBD rituals and seaweed treatments for calm days, and take them in the afternoon, when there is nothing to do afterward but stay horizontal. Show up to yoga and meditation daily; the morning session often runs into the sunrise, which is the point.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I get to Little Palm Island?
The island is accessible only by boat or seaplane. The resort provides a scheduled ferry service from a mainland dock near Little Torch Key (approximately 10 minutes by water). Private seaplane flights are available from Marco Island, Naples, and Miami, and the helipad accommodates helicopter service for guests seeking direct arrival.
Is Little Palm Island adults-only?
Yes. The resort enforces a no-children-under-16 policy to preserve a serene, adults-focused environment. This restriction applies to all guests, including the children of owners and staff, during business hours.
How many treatment rooms does the spa have?
The spa contains five oceanfront treatment rooms within a two-story thatched-roof complex. Each treatment room opens to views of the Gulf of Mexico or the reflection pond courtyard, and the architectural design prioritizes privacy between treatment spaces.
What is the signature spa experience at Little Palm Island?
The Madraguda In-Ocean Sunrise Massage is the property’s signature treatment—a massage performed directly in the shallow Gulf water at dawn. CBD-infused body rituals using macadamia nut oil and organic vanilla are also heavily marketed and appear frequently in recent guest reviews.
What meals are included in the room rate?
Room rates are room-only; meals are not included. The resort operates a single on-site fine-dining restaurant. Spa refreshments (tea, juice, smoothies) are complimentary to treatment guests. All-inclusive packages are not offered.
What is the all-in cost for a typical stay?
A weekend stay for two guests in a bungalow suite (2–3 nights) runs $5,000–$8,000+ after room, meals, spa treatments, and service. The property markets itself as an ultra-luxury destination where the nightly rate is just the starting point.
Can non-resort guests book spa treatments?
Limited day spa bookings are accepted, subject to availability, but resort guests receive priority. Day guests are charged a landing fee in addition to treatment pricing. Most spa appointment slots are reserved for overnight guests.
Is there a fitness center on-site?
Fitness facilities are minimal. A small workout room exists but is rarely cited in reviews. The property prioritizes non-gym wellness (yoga, meditation, water activities) over equipped fitness infrastructure.
What are the best times of year to visit Little Palm Island?
December through April offers the warmest ocean temperatures, clearest skies, and most stable weather. August through October sees the highest hurricane risk and the steepest rate discounts. May through July is warm and humid with afternoon thunderstorms.
Are there scuba diving or snorkeling opportunities?
Yes. The resort arranges guided dives and snorkeling trips via partner operators. The house reef offers shallow snorkeling accessible from the beach. More advanced diving trips require booking through the concierge.
What is the privacy level at Little Palm Island?
Privacy is exceptional. The 4.5-acre island accommodates only 30 bungalow suites, and the no-children policy, combined with strict security, creates an atmosphere of isolation. Guest count and staff count are nearly 1:1.
Is the property part of a luxury hotel chain?
Little Palm Island is part of the Curator Hotels & Resorts portfolio and holds a Relais & Châteaux heritage designation. It is not part of a major chain (no Marriott, Four Seasons, or Hilton affiliation), which distinguishes its ownership and management philosophy.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 60 days in advance typically receive a full refund. Cancellations within 60 days are subject to a percentage penalty; cancellations within 14 days forfeit the full deposit. Peak-season bookings have stricter terms.
Can I book a meal plan or package rates?
The resort offers occasional promotional packages (spa + meal bundles, honeymoon packages) during the shoulder season. Direct contact with the concierge or booking via Virtuoso advisors often surfaces add-on value not visible on public booking sites.
How does the property address sustainability?
The property operates under strict environmental protocols befitting a private island. Solar power, rainwater collection, organic landscaping, and minimal-waste dining practices are standard. The spa product line emphasizes organic, fair-trade, and ethically sourced ingredients.
How This Review Works
Every SpaRator score is built the same way: six equally weighted categories, scored from more than 40 documented data points per property through independent spa and hotel facility research and analysis of thousands of verified guest reviews, then averaged, never hand-tuned. The result is a consistent, comparable rating across every property we cover. How SpaRator works
