SpaRatorHow SpaRator scores work

Tampa's only Forbes-rated spa — polished and design-led, but small and steeply priced.
7.6 out of 10
0246810
The Spa at The Tampa EDITION holds a Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star rating — the only Forbes-rated spa in the market — behind a sophisticated, design-led menu built on Biologique Recherche Skin Instant Lab facials. The limits: six treatment rooms, no thermal circuit beyond sauna and steam in the locker areas, and a host hotel that is Tampa's priciest, with recurring noise and billing complaints. Right for design-conscious urban travelers, not resort-spa or wellness-immersion guests.

Pricing & Availability

$600
night
Peak Season (December–April, plus Amalie Arena event nights): roughly $600 to $1,000-plus per night; rates spike sharply around concerts and Tampa Bay Lightning games. Off-Season (summer): roughly $350–$500 per night for base rooms.
Note: The Tampa EDITION is consistently the most expensive hotel in Tampa. Parking is valet-only at roughly $49 per night. Spa treatments run $195 to $465 at non-peak "starting" rates, rise on peak days, and carry a 22% service charge. Marriott Bonvoy elite breakfast is not included — an EDITION brand policy that drives recurring billing disputes. About

The Tampa EDITION opened in 2022 as downtown Tampa's design statement — an Ian Schrager hotel in the Water Street district, with a live-plant lobby, a sculptural marble staircase, and Roman and Williams interiors. Its spa holds a Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star rating, the only Forbes-rated spa in the Tampa market. The Spa, SpecificallySee more

The Tampa EDITION opened in 2022 as downtown Tampa’s design statement — an Ian Schrager hotel in the Water Street district, with a live-plant lobby, a sculptural marble staircase, and Roman and Williams interiors. Its spa holds a Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star rating, the only Forbes-rated spa in the Tampa market.

The Spa, Specifically

The Spa at The Tampa EDITION occupies the hotel’s second floor: six treatment rooms, one of them a duo room for couples, plus a co-ed relaxation lounge and saunas and steam rooms in the men’s and women’s changing areas. Wellness design firm Tlee Spas shaped the space in calm white tones, and the Forbes 4-Star rating confirms the execution.

The treatment menu is the sophisticated part — Biologique Recherche Skin Instant Lab facials that start with a skin analysis, Yon-Ka facials, sound-healing and guided-meditation massages, Himalayan salt stone work, NuFace microcurrent, and LED therapy, with the EDITION’s Le Labo Black Tea scent running through it.

What the spa does not have is scale or a thermal circuit. Six rooms make it intimate; there is no whirlpool, no plunge pool, and no progression beyond the locker-room sauna and steam. The result is a high-quality treatment experience in a compact urban setting — strong on craft and service, limited on facilities and range.

Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong

Book The Tampa EDITION for a design-led city stay with the best single spa treatment in Tampa — a Forbes-rated facility, a sophisticated menu, and a downtown base steps from Water Street dining and Amalie Arena. It suits design-conscious couples and social travelers.

Book elsewhere if you want a resort spa day: there is no thermal circuit, no pool-deck spa setting, and the rooftop pool is a weekend party scene. Families are a poor fit — the spa is adults-only — and value-focused guests will feel the city’s steepest rates and the recurring billing friction.

Where It Sits in the Market

The Tampa EDITION is the urban counterpoint to the region’s beach resorts, and its spa is a study in trade-offs. On treatment quality and design, it leads the market — no Tampa Bay competitor holds a Forbes spa rating.

On scale, it trails all of them: six rooms against the 16 at The Don CeSar’s Spa Oceana and the seven-plus at the Sandpearl Resort benchmark.

The direct downtown rival is the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, whose Spa by JW offers ten treatment suites and a rooftop whirlpool — more spa, no Forbes rating. For the highest-craft treatment in Tampa, the EDITION wins; for a full spa day, the beach resorts do.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is The Tampa EDITION, and how far is the airport?

It is at 500 Channelside Drive, in downtown Tampa's Water Street district, beside Amalie Arena. Tampa International Airport is about six miles away — a 15-to-20-minute drive. It is a downtown hotel; the Gulf beaches are 35 to 45 minutes west.

What rating does the spa hold?

The Spa at The Tampa EDITION holds a Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star rating, awarded in the 2025 Star Awards. It is the only Forbes-rated spa in the Tampa market.

What does the spa include?

Six treatment rooms on the hotel's second floor, including a duo room for couples; a co-ed relaxation lounge; and saunas and steam rooms in both the men's and women's changing areas. There is no whirlpool and no thermal circuit beyond the locker-room sauna and steam.

Is the spa adults-only?

Yes. The spa treatment areas, relaxation lounge, and locker areas are limited to guests aged 18 and over.

Does a spa treatment include rooftop pool access?

Booking a spa treatment includes complimentary rooftop pool access Monday through Thursday. On weekends the rooftop operates as a busier social scene.

What are the signature spa treatments?

The menu leans design-led and sophisticated: Biologique Recherche Skin Instant Lab facials that begin with a skin analysis, Yon-Ka facials, sound-healing and guided-meditation massages, and a Himalayan salt stone massage. The EDITION's Le Labo Black Tea scent runs through the experience.

Is gratuity added to spa services?

Yes. The spa adds a 22% service charge to every service, and quotes treatment prices as non-peak "starting" rates that rise on peak days.

Is there a sauna or thermal circuit?

There are saunas and steam rooms in the men's and women's changing areas. There is no whirlpool, plunge pool, hammam, or salt room — this is a compact urban spa, not a resort thermal circuit.

What dining is on-site?

Three restaurants: Lilac, the signature fine-dining room from Michelin-starred chef John Fraser; the all-day Market with a coffee and pastry bar; and Azure, the rooftop Mediterranean restaurant. The Punch Room and Arts Club add cocktails and cabaret.

Is parking available?

Valet parking only — there is no self-parking. Expect roughly $49 per night, higher around Amalie Arena concerts and Tampa Bay Lightning games.

Is The Tampa EDITION family-friendly or quiet?

Honestly, neither is its strength. The spa is adults-only, and guest reviews repeatedly describe a lively "party hotel" — a DJ-driven rooftop scene and late-night noise. It suits design-minded couples and social travelers more than families or guests seeking a restful stay.

Why is it considered expensive?

It is the most expensive hotel in Tampa. Peak nightly rates pass $1,000 for rooms under 300 sq ft, and guest reviews frequently flag steep on-site pricing and billing disputes. The spa is high-quality, but the surrounding costs add up.

How This Review Works

Every SpaRator score is built the same way: six equally weighted categories, scored from more than 40 documented data points per property through independent spa and hotel facility research and analysis of thousands of verified guest reviews, then averaged, never hand-tuned. The result is a consistent, comparable rating across every property we cover. How SpaRator works
