The problem is scale. The Vinoy Spa has only four treatment rooms — including one couples room — serving a 354-room resort, and its wet facilities are a basic sauna, steam room, and whirlpool tucked into the Health Club locker rooms rather than a dedicated spa thermal circuit.

Book The Vinoy for the hotel — a beautifully restored 1925 landmark, a walkable downtown St. Petersburg base steps from museums and the waterfront, and a resort with real recreational breadth in its golf course, tennis, marina, and daily wellness classes. The spa is a pleasant minor extra here, not a reason to choose the property.

Book elsewhere if the spa is the point of the trip: four treatment rooms and a locker-room wet area cannot anchor a spa-led stay, and value-focused guests will feel the gap between a premium rate and a modest spa.

Where It Sits in the Market

The Vinoy and The Don CeSar are the Tampa Bay scope’s two grand historic resorts — and their spas sit at opposite ends of it. The Don CeSar’s Spa Oceana has 16 treatment rooms; The Vinoy Spa has 4. The Vinoy is, by many measures, the better-located and more thoroughly restored hotel, and as a place to stay, it is excellent. But the SpaRator measures the spa proposition, and here, The Vinoy trails the Sandpearl Resort benchmark and the rest of the Tier 1 field. This is a great hotel, but its spa is its weak link.
